Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility, as it has been defined at Epiphany, represents this community's commitment to reach out to the larger world. The many ministries listed under Social Responsibility express the Gospel concern to love all persons, especially those who suffer from oppression, deprivation, or violence.

  • What: “A Winter’s Day In The Holy Heart Of God” Retreat
  • When: Saturday, January 16 2010, 9 am to 5 pm

We invite you to a quiet winter’s day to sit in God’s embracing love... to re-connect with the One Who draws us into a relationship of compassion and justice with our broken world.

  • Save the Date! Our Winter Renewal Retreat will be a time of contemplation of the One who calls us to justice, peace and charity. All are welcome! Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Social Responsibility - Ministry Overview

Kindness and Truth shall meet, Justice and Peace shall embrace
Psalm 85 gives us a poetic framework for an integrated image of our ministry and its many expressions. We speak of Kindness, Truth, Justice and Peace as four virtues of social responsibility that lead us in a “dance”. They guide us in the lively steps and movements of a Gospel response to our world.

Kindness leads us into expressions of compassion…

Support of Direct Assistance Agencies: We tithe a portion of our income to support care for needy and vulnerable people through a number of local and global agencies, including a variety of collaborative direct assistance ministries and community centers across Louisville.

Emergency Assistance: A portion of our tithe is set aside for people who come directly to us for help with housing and utility bills.

Social Responsibility Announcements / Events

Here are several announcements from the Social Responsibility ministry:

  • Our Honduras Mission Team is home, with many experiences and inspirational stories to share.  Team members will offer a report to the community in the time between this weekend's Sunday liturgies--approximately 10:15, in the Community Center, August 30.
  • As reported in the Courier-Journal, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson has asked leaders of faith communities to call for volunteers to help over 3000 families with clean-up to their flood-damaged property.  This appeal was passed on to us via the Archdiocese:
"The city is requesting volunteers, 18 and over, to assist with cleaning homes that have been damaged during the recent flood.  The work involves clearing homes of flood-damaged drywall, carpets, and belongings. Individuals or teams are welcome.  They also are looking for people with access to trucks. To volunteer, call 502-292-6107 or go to www.metrounitedway.org/volunteer.
