Building Community – Restoring Lives

New Video Documents Habitat Louiville's Recent Achievement

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville recently celebrated its 300th home built for families in our area since its inception here in 1985. Habitat is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, with which the Community of Epiphany has partnered for many years. They have just released a new video about their recent milestone and their hopes for the future. A number of Epiphanites are featured in this recent video.

Habitat for Humanity builds simple and affordable homes in partnership with those in need of decent housing. Habitat sells houses to qualified families at no profit with zero interest mortgage loans. The Kentucky Housing Corporation services mortgage payments pro bono for Habitat Louisville. These 300 homes shelter nearly 1,000 people, at least 330 adults and 558 children. In 2008, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville was named the 12th largest home builder in Louisville by Business First.

Off to a Great Start!

Tens of volunteers from four Catholic Churches pitched in to “raise the roof,” on a future Habitat home at 3016 Bank Street in Louisville. By the end of week one, the structure was under roof, windows and doors installed, with siding and soffit in place.

Chuck Sgro, House Leader and Epiphany parishioner, noted that this is, by far, the best progress he has seen in a Raise the Roof house start. Donna Scott and Chuck Stanley and other Habitat regulars directed an army of willing and efficient volunteers.
