Faithful Citizenship

An archdiocesan program that commits itself to writing letters to politicians as a way of influencing political decision-making about issues of concern to the Christian American. Several times each year, participants are sent background information about issues they are interested in.

Catholics at the Capitol: Exercising Faithful Citizenship

logoComing Soon: A JustCommunity season focused on our Catholic social teaching and legislative advocacy.

We’re sometimes asked, “Isn’t it wrong for the Church to be politically involved?”

The truth has two answers: we may not and do not engage in advocacy on behalf of a candidate for political office.  But we may and do engage in advocacy for the poor and vulnerable, for peace and justice, through legislative action... Are you interested?

Advocating for Justice

Faithful Citizenship logoAdvocating for Justice: Every personal phone call and letter makes an impact.

The Federal Budget is an Justice Issue! The House has passed a budget that would directly impact services to some of the most needy and vulnerable in our community.

The Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities encourage us to advocate for a budget that does not fail the moral criteria of Catholic teaching: to protect the poor and advance the common good.

Update on Faithful Citizenship Efforts This Year

Faithful CitizenshipAs the Kentucky legislation season wraps up, we can proudly celebrate our efforts to influence legislation that is in accord with our Catholic social teaching. Many parish members have reported making the requested phone calls, and a goodly number have traveled to Frankfort for rallies and hearings. If you want updates on both state and national legislative work, please contact Sister Larraine or Bernie Tichenor to have your name placed on the Faithful Citizenship email list. And please prayerfully consider how you might personally participate in 2012—we hope to grow the number of Frankfort visitors!

One very important aspect of our Faithful Citizenship is CLOUT, which enables our engagement at the local level. Members of our CLOUT team will be reaching out among our parish members to seek commitments for the Nehemiah Assembly on Thursday, April 14,2011 at Bellarmine University. Please prayerfully consider how the simple gift of your presence for one evening can help bring about change for good in the Louisville community.
