men's Work logoWomen's Concerns has always tried to help to prevent Domestic Violence.  We are helping to promote the following activity: MensWork is promoting a Father's Day event on Monday, June 13, 2011 the Monday before Father's Day.

This can be a powerful opportunity for dads to stand up AGAINST dating violence, and FOR gender respect.

Discussion of the book “The Help”

The HelpWhat: Book Discussion of “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett.
When: Wednesday, January 26, 2011
Time: 7:00 PM
Where: Community Center Library

Love to talk about a good book you have read?

On Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the library, the Women's Concerns Committee will have a book discussion on The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It's an easy read, so you have plenty of time. We try to pick books of special interest to women and about women.

In this one, three women in Mississippi in 1962 band together in an amazing project. One of them, a white woman, has come to realize how unaware her friends are of their racism. The other two, both African-American, join her in exposing this truth in a book of short stories.

Join us for a lively discussion of this still relevant topic!

Feast Day of Mary Magdalene Celebration held at Epiphany

St Mary Magdela celebration July 22, 2009On Wednesday, July 22, 2009, the Women’s Concerns Committee of Epiphany held their 10th celebration in honor of St. Mary of Magdala. This year, it occurred on her actual feast day. Approximately 75 people were in attendance.

The theme this year was “Who Do You Say I Am?” Candace Kresse was the homilist and asked us who we thought Mary was – the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her hair, the prostitute saved from stoning by Jesus (both of whom she was not), or the Apostle to the Apostles, being the first to see the resurrected Jesus (which she was).

Women's Concerns Book Discussion will feature “Creeker”

What: Women's Concerns Committee Book Discussion
Where: 4522 Coffee Tree Lane, Louisville, KY
When: August 19, 2009
Time: 7:00pm

The Women's Concerns Committee will be having another book discussion at their August meeting on Wednesday, August 19, at 7pm with wine and cheese at the home of Rosemary Smith, 4522 Coffee Tree Lane.  The book we will be discussing is Creeker by Linda Scott DeRosier.  It is a memoir of her growing up in Appalachia. The most fascinating thing about the book is that it takes place within 20 miles of the place that Epiphany goes when helping Hand in Hand Ministries in that area.  Even if you can't go to Appalachia to help with house repair, etc., you can empathize with them through this book.  Try it, you'll like it!
