Healing Blanket

We come together to sew and pray for those in need of healing in mind, body or spirit and to cover them with our blankets and the prayers of the community of Epiphany. This ministry is for anyone in need of prayer and healing of mind, body or spirit. Each blanket - sewn by parishioners - is a symbol of the warmth and care that comes with the knowledge that others are praying for you.

Healing Blanket Ministry To Bless Its 10,001st Blanket

What: Service to bless Epiphany's 10,001st Healing Blanket and reception
Where: Epiphany
When: 7pm, Wednesday November 11th, 2009

Epiphany’s Healing Blanket Ministry will bless the 10,001st healing blanket at a special service at 7:00 PM, Nov. 11, 2009. The service, “Hope For The Next Ten Thousand Blankets,” will be followed by a reception. We will gather all the hands of the Healing Circle, who have ever donated time, talent, or treasure to the creation of a blanket, given a blanket, blessed a blanket, prayed for blanket recipients, received a blanket, or just appreciated this labor of love, to be witness and honor the life-giving presence of God with thanksgiving and prayer.

In May 2003 we began a Healing Blanket ministry here at Epiphany. Since that time nearly 5000 blankets have been blessed and given away. There are approximately 50 parishioners who contribute to this wonderful ministry, ranging from the seamstresses, to those who fold the blankets and laminate prayers. The extraordinary success of this ministry was born from a simple idea received in an email from Houston, Texas.

We began with one seamstress and a one blanket. Our former pastor, Father Bill Griner had just been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and he was the one who received this first blanket. The comfort he received at such a stressful time soon turned into encouragement. More blankets were being given away, and soon word spread and the healing power of God began to direct and ignite this ministry within our community.
