Want to leave your family a wonderful gift? Back by popular demand, the Community Care and Worship Committees are once again co-sponsoring a workshop on Funeral Planning in Epiphany’s Community Center on Saturday, August 14th, from 9:30-11:00 AM.

  • Parish Nurse, Julie Stuart, will share resources to help with general planning for end of life care.
  • A representative of the Funeral Directors Association will speak and answer questions from that perspective.
  • Sr. Mary, Pastoral Associate, and Julie will give information regarding the pastoral care offered by Epiphany’s ministries.
  • Linda Thieneman, Minister of Worship and Music, will guide you through the resources available to plan funeral liturgies.

Obituary for Mary "Rita" Rottman Evans

Mary "Rita" Rottman Evans, 91, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Episcopal Church Home. A longtime member of St. Raphael the Archangel, she several years ago joined Church of Epiphany where her daughter, Jeannie, is an active member. Rita was also an active member of the American Legion Highlands Post Auxiliary #201.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeannie Evans, Patti Eichstadt (David) and Cathy Felts; eight grandchildren, Lynn Evans (Shane Cotter), Jeffrey Felts, Catherine Ewalt (Jeff), Amy Ridder (Cliff) and Sarah, Anthony, Daniel and Emily Eichstadt; and two great-grandchildren.

Obituary for John J. Darcy

John DJohn J. Darcy, 87, died July 3, 2010.

He was a retired executive from General Electric with 42 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Southwest Pacific Theatre. He was a longtime member of the Church of the Epiphany, a former temporary executive director of the Louisville Community Foundation, a member of the G.E. Elfun Society, the Irish Society of Kentuckiana and a Kentucky Colonel.

He has been a councilman and Mayor of the City of Bellmeade, a volunteer at Epiphany for more than 25 years, since 1984. He volunteered with the Salvation Army, Dare to Care, NVP of EACM and the Louisville Science Museum. Known for his fairness, honesty, integrity, and sense of humor, John was admired and respected by all who knew him both personally and professionally. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Obituary for Arlene M. Kielczewski

ArleneKArlene M. Kielczewski, 70, of Louisville, passed away Saturday June 5, 2010.

She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany.

Survivors include, her husband, Jim Kielczewski; children, Kelly Hillman, (David), Tracy Kacpura and John Kielczewski, (Lynette); seven grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, Emily, Mariana and James; brother, James Beveridge; and sister, Barbara Averill.

Her funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Epiphany. The family has entrusted the Pearson-Ratterman Brothers funeral Home in Middletown with arrangements.

Obituary for Margarita Bajandas Missbuechler

Margarita Bajandas Missbuechler, 99, of Louisville, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at Hosparus Inpatient Unit downtown.

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico to Juan and Mercedes Bajandas, Margarita was a member of the Virginia Commonwealth University Wartime Emergency Occupational Therapist Class of 1945 and retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital in 1974. She was a member of Church of the Epiphany.

Obituary for Olga Wiseman

Olga WisemanOlga Schuwey Wiseman, 91, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a native of Switzerland and was a member of Church of the Epiphany, and a former member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Denis Wiseman, Sr.; and her brother, Otto Schuwey.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Rembold (Michael); four sons, Charles D. (Janice), Leonard P. (Carol), Ronald D. (Beth), and Thomas R. (Robin) Wiseman; one, brother, Fr. Emil Schuwey C.PP.S.; four sisters, Lucy Lichtsteiner, Sabina Clan, Frieda Schuwey and Mary Hamer; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Obituary for Mary “Jane” Fitzgerald

Jane FMary “Jane” Fitzgerald, 67, of Louisville, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010.

She was a reading assistant for 35 years for Jefferson County Public Schools, a member of the Church of Epiphany and a graduate of Assumption High School Class of ’61.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Virginia Dott. 

Survivors include, her husband, Michael J. Fitzgerald; daughters, Jeanine F. Padilla (Richard), Shannon Velasquez (Anthony L.) and Michele F. Heil (Joseph); sisters, Susan Potter, Nancy Raque and Patricia; seven grandchildren, John, Jack, Eric, Nicholas, Daniel, Jeff and Julie. 

Memorial Set for Mary Bratton on May 21, 2010

Mary BrattonCommunity member Mary Bratton, 70, departed this earth on February 23, 2010, while on vacation with her three daughters. She left behind a full life, multitudes of dear friends and her family, including daughters, Kim Rylander (Black Mountain, NC), Brigitt Dingeldein (Louisville, KY), and Gretchen Baird, (Louisville, KY), two grandchildren, Drew Dingeldein and Brittany Dingeldein, and sister Cecilia Klos (Denver, CO).

Mary's life mission was "to acknowledge with love each and everyone I meet." Her life was filled with a vibrant energy that touched those who knew her. She shared a very special connection with children and cared for hundreds of them as a nanny and a teacher.

As she attested just hours before her death, "Inside this body is a three-year-old child!" Mary lived in many places and she made Louisville her final residence.

Lillian A. Buckel, mother of parishioner Lou Buckel, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society in her 94th year.

She was the former Lillian Sorrell. She worked for Brown Forman and the University of Louisville as a secretary and was a member of Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church.

Obituary for June Harris

June HarrisJune R. Harris, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at her residence.

She was retired from Bell South after 35 years and was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Amile L. "Inky" Harris.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Hendricks and Tammy Nakamura (Yuki); four grandchildren, Natalia and Nico Nakamura, Shawn and Brooke Hendricks (Frank Zebich); and one great-grandchild, Nate Zebich.

The funeral will be 10:00 AM Saturday (April 24, 2010) at Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, with entombment in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Friday, at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or Crusade For Children.
