| Embracing the Sick and Homebound: Being the Body of Christ to Those in Need |
| |
|
|
Saturday, January 20th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Epiphany Community Center. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. This event is an opportunity to look deeper into the many facets of Ministry to the Sick and Homebound. Many topics will be discussed throughout the day, including the theology and spirituality of Ministry to the Sick, practical points of visiting the homebound, and praying with those in need. A detective from the Crimes against Seniors Unit will be discussing elder abuse, the warning signs to look for, and how we can be advocates for all of our parishioners. RSVP to 245-9733 or email Pamela Lynch.
Ministry to the Sick and Homebound is rooted in Jesus’ call for us to care for one another. It is our responsibility to reach out to persons who are sick, with special protection for those who are poor and needy. When Jesus tells us that “I was ill and you cared for me,” (Mt. 25:36) we are reminded that when we seek out and help those in need, we are met by the face of God in our midst. As we bring the body of Christ to them, we are united with the body of Christ already within them. We experience communion with our God and our Church. |

Mission Statement Of Parish Nurse Ministry
The Parish Nurse Ministry at Epiphany promotes a holistic understanding of health and its relationship to faith. Drawing on medical knowledge and resources, the parish nurse functions as a health educator, counselor and referral source, while at the same time acknowledging the importance of community, spirituality and prayer found within the Body of Christ. At its core the Parish Nurse Ministry recognizes that everyone has the right to feel better – body, mind and spirit – regardless of their health, prognosis or condition.
Parish Nurse Ministries
- Healing Blanket Ministry: Information on the Healing Blankets and how to request them
- Ministry to sick and homebound: Visit the sick of the community as well as other facilities such as nursing homes or rehab facilities. We have a growing list of homebound people and others in Nursing Homes who need visitors. Please call the parish office to notify us as soon as a family member is admitted; ordinarily, hospitals do not do due to the HIPPA Law. Anointing of the sick is offered on the first Monday of each month during the 7:00pm liturgy in the chapel. Additionally, any parish member suffering from a serious physical or emotional illness may receive this sacrament by calling the parish office.
