Compassionate Acts Revealed!

CompassionThis is an act of compassion that was observed by a member of our community this Lent. Perhaps you have seen other such signs of compassion or been moved to act in a compassionate way this Lent. Let us pass on this sign of God’s life.

While home for a brief visit from college, my daughter accompanied me on some errands. As we were sitting in traffic on the ramp from the Watterson turning onto Hwy 42, (Brownsboro Road), she noticed a man standing on the side of the road holding a sign asking for work in exchange for food. She asked if I had any food in the car, which I didn't. I had treated her to lunch at Whole Foods a few hours earlier.

She recalled a couple of favorite food items she had purchased for herself while we were there. She remembered the special roll and asked me to pull over so she could give it to him. She jumped out of the car and ran over to him while I pulled into a gas station a few yards up the road and waited for her. When she jumped back in the car she was so happy that she'd had food in the car that she could give him. She said she tried to keep a few restaurant gift cards in her car for just such occasions. I regret to admit I had never thought to do that. I was deeply touched by her generosity, tenderheartedness and compassion to a perfect stranger, especially since she was a working college student and was financially struggling herself. She is such an inspiration to me!
