When you ask a Presentation Academy alum about her school, she will tell you there is something so special you just have to be there. Almost like being at Epiphany – you just have to experience it. That’s the way it is for Kathy Wolz Marshall, Presentation Academy’s 2010 Alumna of the Year.

Tradition plays a big part in Kathy’s story. In 1961 Kathy carried on a family tradition by following her two sisters to Presentation, the oldest continually operating high school in Louisville. And the tradition handed down from its foundress, Mother Catherine Spalding [http://scnfamily.org/] , is palpable in the walls of the old building. Pres girls are taught to be themselves, to lead with love and respect and to serve others always. These qualities served Kathy well when she began a teaching career after graduation from Spalding College (University). For 32 years she worked for the Jefferson County Public Schools. Yet, throughout those years, she found time to volunteer in endless ways to the school she loves.

Kathy joined Epiphany in 1976 and has been a member ever since. She and her husband Paul were married here in 1977. They have two children, Michael and Anna, who grew up at Epiphany. Now Anna and her husband, Cory Workman, and their son, Ian, are also members of Epiphany. Another tradition continues. Of course, Kathy has given her time and talents to Epiphany. She’s been involved with the Youth Group, Bible Times Marketplace, a Eucharistic Minister, a bread baker, and most recently with Parish Life and Bereavement.

Retirement from JCPS in 2001 didn’t last long. That same year she was hired as Manager of Alumnae Relations. Guess where? Of course, Presentation Academy. She says she felt like she was coming home. That’s why this award means so much to her. She says she is truly humbled and highly honored to follow in the footsteps of such unbelievable women.

Last December, Kathy retired for good in order to spend more time with her family. But you can bet that this Alumna of the Year will always be doing something for others - It’s a Presentation tradition.
