Women of Epiphany

by Pam Porta

There’s a new group at Epiphany! We are “ Women of Epiphany.” WOE for short! (WOE and MOE, the underlying meaning is something to contemplate!) We meet the first Tuesday of the month and are open to all women of all ages who are members of Epiphany. The group has been a great success. We have new ladies joining us each month and are looking forward to meeting many more.

Why did I start this group? Well, I felt a “calling”. I’ve been a member of Epiphany off and on for about 25 years. We were transferred to other cities twice during this time. Once for three years and once for five years. In these other cities my dearest friends (and my husband’s, for that matter) were all from our church. We all bonded, and still keep in touch with these dear friends. The common threads at these churches were children and schools. Since being back in Louisville, I’ve watched friends from other churches and their close relationships with members of their church families. These were usually Sunday school members or small social group members. I felt somewhat “envious” that I didn’t have that with a lot of women at my church. I missed that connection with my spiritual family. I was involved with the church in many different ways, but felt I just wanted a social connection with women.

Finally, after years of hearing that little voice in my head, I decided to go for it! I decided to see if other women had that need for a social and spiritual connection. It was amazing! At our first get-together, as we all sat around introducing ourselves, and stating why we were there, I heard the same theme over and over.

All these beautiful women, many of them very active in the community of Epiphany, just wanted a social outlet. We all needed an outlet with no agendas and no demands. At the end of each get-together, I always ask if there’s anything special they want to do. The answer has always been the same, “Na-a.” The talking, bonding and just getting to know each other is all we need right now.

We are meeting the first Tuesday of the month. If you’d like to join us, look for information in the bulletin at the end of the month. Our goal: to provide a social and spiritual connection with, and a support system for women of Epiphany. We are “Women of Epiphany.”
