This two-day event is an opportunity to continue building a network of Faithful Citizens to advocate for public policies that reflect Gospel values and Catholic Church teachings. Constituent visits to legislators will conclude the two day program.
A limited number of rooms at a special rate of $66.00 are available at the Best Western Parkside Inn, 80 Chenault Road in Frankfort. Call 502-695-6111 to make your hotel reservation and mention Catholics @ The Capitol.
Many important bills will be debated during this year's General Assembly and your voice of support or opposition is important. Bills regarding the informed consent of someone seeking an abortion, ultra sound exams prior to abortions, the exclusion of the severely mentally ill from facing a death sentence, limiting the amount payday loan companies can charge their client are almost certain to be introduced. And, of course, the 800 lb gorilla in the room is the budget. This is really a moral document that we want to shape so it reflects Gospel values.
The Catholic Conference of Kentucky (CCK) is an agency of the Catholic Bishops of Kentucky, established in 1968. It speaks for the Church in matters of public policy, serves as liaison to government and the legislature, and coordinates communications and activities between the church and secular agencies. There are 406,000 Catholics in the Commonwealth. The Bishops of the four dioceses of KY constitute CCK's Board of Directors.
