Hello from Honduras
By Rosemary Smith
Epiphany's team in Honduras has been working for only 3 1/2 days and has already accomplished a lot -- on four different projects.
- Our first of two days of installing water purification systems was the most done in one day -- 48!!! 48 more families whose children won't die from parasites that cause diarrhea.
- We helped buy consturciton materials for the third wall of the community center that Divine Mercy Church is building.
- Today, Saturday, the twenty children who were able to attend school this year because Epiphany sponsors paid $150 for each student. We have photos and letters to bring home to their sponsors. (Sharon Oster is in charge of this project.)
- The group of 16 who are making the beautiful paper-bead jewelry have made about 400 more sets of necklace, bracelet and earrings. We will be bringing some of these home to sell. (If you want any, call Rosemary Smith at 240-5801.) They have already developed a local market, one of our goals for this project that earned one of Epiphany's grants.
While all this activity has been going on, our friend from Eminence, KY, Joanne Ashby and Lisa Scherer, Bill Mezetti from Boston and any of the rest of us who were free, played games and did arts and crafts projects with the children, probably the most fun of all.
Sr. Larraine has been the busiest of all, translating for everyone, and working hard developing all these projects.
