Reflections on Sunday’s Mass: February 7, 2010

This is the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The three readings focus on “call to ministry/service”. The call to ministry/service and one’s wholehearted response is the theme that runs through all the readings.

  • Isaiah 6: 1-2a, 3-8 Isaiah has a vision. The glory of God, the God of Israel is everywhere! Through the vision Isaiah volunteers for service as a prophet. His lips have been made clean.
  • 1 Cor. 15: 1-11 We see in this reading from Paul a statement of belief: Christ died, was buried; he was raised, he appeared. Paul, like us, are what we are because of the grace of God. It doesn’t matter who preached the good news! It matters that we believe.
  • Luke 5: 1-11 The incredible catch by fishermen, Simon, James and John, leads these men to follow Jesus to the cross and beyond.

February 7 is Scout Sunday. If you come to the 9:00 AM Liturgy and are a scout you are invited to wear your uniform and participate in a special way.
