Epiphany Partners with Bread for the World
For many years, Epiphany has partnered with Bread for the World in their annual Offering of Letters Campaign. Each year's campaign has a particular legislative focus. This year's goal is to protect and strengthen the Earned Income Tax Credit program. Keep reading to learn how you can participate, and to reflect on the personal witness of Epiphany member Larry Hunt.
HANDWRITTEN, INDIVIDUALLY MAILED LETTERS to our elected representatives in Congress are the most effective way to communicate our desire that governmental policies and programs are consistent with our Roman Catholic teachings on social justice. Assisting low-income workers and their families through key tax credits is consistent with these Gospel teachings and is also in the best interests of our nation’s well-being. A letter to Senator McConnell is most important, because of his key leadership role in the U.S. Senate, to Representative Yarmuth because of his membership on both the Budget and Ways & Means Committees in the House, and to Senator Bunning on the Senate Finance Committee. For letters you write at home, be sure you put your name and address at the end of the letter and on the envelope, and PLEASE BRING THEM BACK TO EPIPHANY NEXT WEEKEND TO PLACE IN THE OFFERING OF LETTERS BASKET. We need to know how many letters are written to each member of Congress, so that we can call & let them know the letters are on the way to their Washington, DC office, even if their arrival is delayed several weeks due to security procedures!
Our Epiphany member Larry Hunt is a long-time active member of Bread for the World, who has faithfully coordinated this project for years. When asked about his passion for the organization, he naturally shared his deeper passion for his faith. Larry’s personal faith story illustrates that Bread for the World is an organization of compassionate faith in action. Read Larry's personal account of his journey.
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, Bread for the World provides help and opportunity far beyond the communities in which we live.
