Honduras Mission Update: the other side

Map of HondurasWhat's Going on in Honduras?  Will we still be going?  Honduras is in the midst of a military coup, leading to widespread civil unrest: protests, looting, financial instability and violence.  The leadership of Divine Mercy, our sister community, called in the midst of a country-wide blackout on Sunday June 29, to ask for our prayers.  At this time, our plans for the August trip are on hold, until the situation is stabilized.

Thanks to all who have been contributing so generously to our mission in Tegucigalpa, the capitol city.  When we are able to return, we will be joining with the community to move forward with several projects: the Living Water Ministry (water purification), scholarships and after-school care for children, and construction on the parish community house.

Are you feeling called to cross over to the other side?  In brief, our mission trip will look like this:

  • One week
  • Simple accommodations and food in a Franciscan friary/parish center
  • Sorking with the people of Divine Mercy on their community projects:
  • Children
    • Set up for children's scholarships
    • After-school child enrichment (art, music, etc.)
    • Children's Check-Ups (if we have a doctor or nurse-practitioner on the team)
    • Water Purification: Install ten home systems, to expand the Living Water Ministry
    • Construction work on the parish community center
