Social Responsibility Announcements / Events

Here are several announcements from the Social Responsibility ministry:

  • Our Honduras Mission Team is home, with many experiences and inspirational stories to share.  Team members will offer a report to the community in the time between this weekend's Sunday liturgies--approximately 10:15, in the Community Center, August 30.
  • As reported in the Courier-Journal, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson has asked leaders of faith communities to call for volunteers to help over 3000 families with clean-up to their flood-damaged property.  This appeal was passed on to us via the Archdiocese:
"The city is requesting volunteers, 18 and over, to assist with cleaning homes that have been damaged during the recent flood.  The work involves clearing homes of flood-damaged drywall, carpets, and belongings. Individuals or teams are welcome.  They also are looking for people with access to trucks. To volunteer, call 502-292-6107 or go to www.metrounitedway.org/volunteer.
    "
  • We expect to participate in a number of "good-cause" walks this fall.  The parish staff will be working together to coordinate a shared campaign for participation in all our favorite causes, be they issues of justice, charity, health or diversity.  If you have a favorite good-cause walk in mind, and are willing to provide leadership for our community in organizing our participation, please email Therese Brennan or Sister Larraine.
  • UNskilled helpers are needed on Saturday at our rehab project in the West End: 2536 West Main Street.  If you would like to help out for a few hours, please email Jon Wickens, jonfwickens@aol.com.
