Local Missions and Projects

  • Art Program for Child Visitors at the Metro Jail: Art expression and therapy available to children visiting family members at the jail, in partnership with the Kentucky Foundation for Women. Contact Mary Ann Stenger
  • Backpack Buddies at Dare to Care Food Bank: Fill backpacks with weekend nutrition for at-risk kids. Located at Fern Valley Rd. Once a month during the school year. Contact JoAnne Feldman
  • Backside Children’s Chapel: Every Monday evening, 6:30-8:30, help with children’s activities during ecumenical worship service, serving the families of track workers of Churchill Downs. Contact Muffy Sinclair. Sponsored by Backside Mission and Men of Epiphany
  • Donations Distribution: We accept and deliver donations of clothing and household items for the following agencies or their clients: St. Vincent de Paul Stores, Backside Clothes Closet, Latino Outreach Services. We also distribute furniture to needy families. Volunteers help with delivery. Donations must be brought to the Epiphany House back porch, after contacting Sister Larraine. Sponsored by Epiphany St. Vincent de Paul and Backside Mission.
  • Eastern Area Community Services: Intake workers and other volunteers needed: food pantry and emergency assistance. Open weekdays. EACM is an area ministry supported by various local congregations, located at John Knox Presbyterian Church on Westport Rd. Contact Martha Groene
  • Epiphany Habitat for Humanity: In partnership with neighboring parishes, a house is sponsored and built bi-annually. Next project tentatively scheduled for September 2010. Contact Charlene Kline
  • Habitat “Chuck’s Team”: volunteers year-around in local Habitat projects. Contact Chuck Sgro.
  • Helping Hands Kitchen: In partnership with St. Vincent de Paul Louisville, located at downtown campus, daily serving homeless and others in need of a hot meal. Contact Sharon Spath
  • Kid’s Café: Serving in the Berrytown Y, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Cooking at 3:30, Serving at 5:30 In partnership with Dare to Care Food Bank. Contact JoAnne Feldman, volunteers only.
  • Latino Outreach Services English Classes: Instructors and child care needed. A program of Eastern Area Community Services, located at John Knox Presbyterian Church on Westport Road. Contact Paty Robles
  • Mobile Food Pantry at Holy Name: In partnership with Dare to Care Food Bank, a twice-monthly food distribution in the Churchill Downs Area, serving over 350 families. Contact Margaret Gurucharri
  • Prison Ministry: Catholic prayer and support for persons incarcerated at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange. Monday evenings. Contact Martha Stuber.
  • St. Vincent de Paul Rehab Work: Rehab outreach for West End and other households in need of repair work. Sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul Epiphany Conference. Contact Jon Wickens
