Martha FrederickMartha Ellen Begley Frederick, 87 of Atlanta, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky died March 28, 2013. Preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Thelma, Marinella, Elmer, Wallace, Carlos and Marcus and her husband, James E. Frederick.  She is survived by her brother, David Begley, Sr. and a host of nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Howard Bowles

HowardJudge Howard N Bowles, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on April 22, 2013.

Judge Bowles was born on October 17, 1926 in Louisville. He attended St. Therese Catholic Elementary School, St. Xavier High School (Class of 1944) and the University of Louisville. He was elected to the inaugural bench of the Jefferson District Court, where he served with pride and great dignity until his retirement. He was a devoted University of Louisville Cardinal fan and a member of the Church of the Epiphany.

Howard, affectionately known as "Pancho," leaves a legacy of kindness, gentleness, compassion, generosity and love. He joins his mother, Mary Magdelen Bakes, and his father, Howard S. Bowles, in Heaven.

She was a member of Church of the Epiphany and loved to cook and garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Celestino Marcos; daughter, Dr. Milagros Gallego; and a son, Manuel.

She is survived by a daughter, Nina Wardrip (Charles); grandchildren, Rene Wardrip, Robert Wardrip (Kate), Richard Powell, Davin Gallego, Noel Nuqui, Neil Nuqui (Marites), Nilo Nuqui (Lala) and Niki Rivera (Raynon); great-grandchildren, Luke, Nathan, Kyle, Patrick, Alexa, Nathan, Raine, Riana and Ranik; and a son-in-law, Johnny Gallego.

Obituary for Betty Conniff, Epiphany Formation Minister

BettyBetty Jean Conniff, 79, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Episcopal Church Home.

Born in Louisville, the former Betty Riedling served as Co-Director of Children’s Religious Formation at Church of the Epiphany for nearly 20 years, where she was a member. She was also a member of Queen's Daughters. All people, especially children, were drawn to her gentleness and love. She loved to bake delectable cookies and pies, which she generously shared, and all appreciated.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Conniff. Betty is survived by her daughters, Mary Beth Conniff and Nancy Thomas (Lloyd); sisters, Marianne Glass (Buddy) and Carol Kern (Buddy); 4 grandchildren, Kathy Barrentine (Tony), and Leslie (Tina), Abbey and Hannah Nussbaum; and 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon.

Obituary for Doris Toth, Charter Epiphany Member

DorisDoris Toth, 94, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Jefferson Manor.

She was a graduate of the Southern Connecticut State University, a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Epiphany choir, Bell choir and Epiphany Sages, volunteered for Maryhurst and recorded books for the blind. Doris retired from GE, a computer analyst for over 35 year.

She is survived by niece, Joyce Edgars of Meriden, CT; nephews, Jeffrey Crooks of Green Valley, AZ, and Jarrett Crooks of Trumbull, CT; and many great-nieces and nephews, including Lori Starr recently of Louisville.

Her funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Monday March 18, 2013 at Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Rd., with private burial in Kentucky Veterans Central Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Arrangements through Ratterman's 12900 Shelbyville Rd. East Louisville.

Obituary for Shelby Theiss

ShelbyShelby Caitlin Theiss, 20, of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Born in Louisville, she worked as a nanny during the summer. During high school she danced for Dancer Pointe Studio in Pewee Valley. She was a graduate of DuPont Manuel High School and a current junior at Murray State University majoring in Finance. She was Vice President of the AOII Sorority.

Shelby was preceded in death by her grandmother, Annette Prybylski. She is survived by her loving parents, James & Jeanne (Prybylski) Theiss; brother Mitchell Theiss; grandparents David Prybylski, Kenneth W. Theiss (Toya) and Jean Theiss; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Shelby’s funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 7th, at Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Obituary for Marie Steele, a Charter Member of Epiphany

MarieMarie Reavy Steele , 95, of Louisville passed away Sunday February 17, 2013 at the Episcopal Church Home.

She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, a tireless volunteer, devoted mother, loving wife and caring grandmother.

Preceded in death by her husband Robert "Perk" Steele and grandchildren, Gerald Nicolas Jr. and Christopher Reavy.

She is survived by her daughter Helen Marie Nicolas (Gerald); sons, Charles E. Reavy (Delva), Joe Reavy (Dale) and James T. Reavy (Kathleen), 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Memorial Prayer Service for Jeanne M. Powell

JeanneJeanne M. Powell, 80, of Louisville entered into eternal life on Friday, February 8, 2013. Predeceased by her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her daughter, Linda C. Powell, of Louisville; son, Michael F. Powell, also of Louisville, his wife Cheryl; two beloved grandsons, Derek and Justin; sisters, Joan (George) Honor, Karen (the late Daniel) Millington; sisters-in-law, Sandy (the late Joseph) Clark, and Patricia (the late Jack) Clark; lifelong friend, Marcia Bernard; cousin, Laurie Law and several nieces and nephews, and of course, her constant pal, Shadow.

Jeanne M. Powell was born in Albany, N.Y., April 1, 1932 where she resided until she married and moved to White Plains, N.Y. and then to Springfield, Mass, until 1964 when they returned to Albany where they raised their family. In 2004 she and her husband relocated to Louisville to be closer to her grandchildren whom she adored.

Obituary for Dick Stemle

Dick StemleRichard "Dick" Stemle, 79, passed away Tuesday in the comfort of his loving family.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 57 years; his sons, Mike Stemle (Ada) of Champaign, IL and Tony Stemle (Dawn) of Taylorsville, KY; and his daughters, Mimi Buckley (Bob), Barbara McTeague (Rick) and Angie Calvin of Louisville. Mr. Stemle has a sister, Linda Hublar (Buddy) of New Albany, IN; and a brother, Joseph Stemle (Margaret) of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dick was a proud 1955 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and has kept in close contact with his classmates through the years.

Obituary for Sister Mary Helen Thieneman, OP

Sr. Mary HelenDominican Sister of Peace Mary Helen, OP, 80, a native of Louisville, died on January 21, 2013, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY.

[Sr. Mary Helen is the sister of Martha Stuber, Epiphany’s Business Manager.]

A Dominican for 60 years, Sr. Mary Helen earned a BA in History/Spanish from Siena College, Memphis, TN, an MEd in Guidance/Counseling from Spalding College, Louisville and an MA in formative spirituality from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She ministered as a teacher at St. Bartholomew (Chicago, IL) and St. Michael (Orland Park, IL). She also ministered as principal/teacher at a number of schools in Louisville - Immaculate Heart, SS Simon and Jude, Holy Rosary Academy and St. Thomas More. Sr. Mary Helen also served in parish ministry at St. Margaret Mary (Louisville).
